Hilde

The compiler and the tools are under the Apache License 2.0 with LLVM Exception (LICENSE in the Hilde repository), the standard library under the Apache License 2.0 (standard/LICENSE). MIRCO, Wolly and ROXIE carry the same licence as Hilde. A package that hilde new makes carries the ISC licence with the author git knows.

Austral, the origin

Hilde is a fork of Austral by Fernando Borretti, at commit 0962d2a8a5d77f7daacd7f696819520733f4897d of 29 July 2025.

clap, the model for the command line

Standard.Arguments follows the builder API of clap 4, the Command Line Argument Parser of Rust. It takes over the form, not the code: Arguments after clap maps clap's calls to Hilde's and holds three programmes written in both, the clap ones built with clap 4.6.7 for comparison.

C libraries Hilde binds

The standard library binds these C libraries through its Bindings.* modules: libcrypto (LibreSSL or OpenSSL), libtls (or libretls), PCRE2, SQLite, SQLCipher, libpq (PostgreSQL), libmariadb (MariaDB Connector/C), DuckDB and libargon2; MIRCO binds LAPACK, pocketfft, HDF5, netCDF and DuckDB. They are linked from the system, not shipped.

The brand

The typefaces of the brand are Bricolage Grotesque and IBM Plex Mono, both under the SIL Open Font License 1.1. This site loads no font files; it names the two typefaces and falls back to the fonts of the system.
